About Me

My name is Madeline Birk and I am a private violin and viola teacher based in Layton, UT. I am originally from Long Island, NY, but graduated from Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education during 2020 where I began teaching violin and viola privately. Between 2016-2020, I studied violin under Dr. Jennifer Sacher-Wiley and co-taught beginner violin classes with her. I also worked as an assistant conductor to the SU Strings community orchestra and a teachers assistant for the String Methods courses at Susquehanna. At the end of my undergrad, I split my time as a student teacher between Matt and Anna Radspinner in the Williamsport Area School District where I worked with both high school and beginning strings.

In 2020, I moved to North Carolina to accept a new position as Director of Orchestras at Pinecrest High School. During my 4 years in NC, I directed 3 orchestras and began a music honor society chapter. Of these 3 orchestras, many of my students regularly participated in All County, Solo and Ensemble, and Eastern Regional Orchestra while often achieving high ratings and prestigious chair placements. Under my direction the advanced orchestra competed in state and national competitions where they frequently received superior ratings. As a performer in NC, I held principal 2nd violin in the Moore Philharmonic Orchestra, 2nd violin in the Carolina String Quartet, and gigged as a freelance violinist and violist in the NC and SC areas.

My husband and I relocated to Layton in July 2024 and have loved learning about and exploring the area. You can often find us with our 2 fur babies HoneyBun and Chili going on hikes, checking out the farmers markets, or getting ready for our next camping trip.
